Anyone that knows me, or my wife, knows that I love dogs. Especially my dog Pete. I have a soft spot for most all canines. Well, I have an acquaintance that I know from my years in the banking technology industry. His name is Tommy. I don’t believe that I have ever actually met Tommy in person, but we have talked on the phone several times and are friends in the Facebook world. Through our conversations, emails, and exchanges it became evident that Tommy is a dog lover as well. Today Tommy posted that his lab Jack passed away after almost 14 years of companionship. Like I said, I’ve never met Tommy in person and I never met Jack either… but it broke me up just reading about it.

I tell that story just to reiterate what I’ve said before. Dogs are sent from God. They are angels. They are examples of how us humans should treat each other. If people were more like dogs, the world would be a better place. My Golden Retriever Pete is loyal, always happy to see me, doesn’t hold a grudge, and is always protective of children.
Jack’s passing reminded me of the last scene from Marley & Me and what the main character said…
“A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not.” – John Grogan (Marley & Me: Love and Life with the World’s Worst Dog)
Dogs make our lives better. If you don’t have one, adopt one that needs a home.
